Vegan Cooking Pro Tips from Montclair, NJ

Spent my Saturday afternoon at a free cooking demo at Designer Appliances, Montclair. The demo, led by Dianne Wenz and Jenna Prochilo, demonstrated five vegan dishes with a prep time of 40 minutes or less.

It's so fun to hear people talk about food and their cooking habits. Picked up little tips here and there for healthier cooking, such as a rule to make sure all meals include at least three colors of vegetables. One color should always be green--when all else fails, pair a meal with arugula (UGH YES ARUGULA DELICIOUS).

I also try to collect pro tips when I can--that tomato paste from a tube seems to store better if it's only being used a little at a time, and using veggie broth on tofu that is sautéing, so it doesn't get stuck to the pan and fall apart. All in all, it was three hours well spent... and sampling each dish didn't hurt.

There is so much to enjoy in Montclair, NJ on a Saturday.

Once a Sconnie always a Sconnie!

An actual wookie appeared!

The morning brought more treats:

It was hard to settle on flavors, but pistachio and Nutella were eventually taken home. Turns out they are best paired with a dirty chai, or chai tea with a shot of espresso and steamed milk. (Not pictured because I drank it too quickly!)

It's been a relaxing Sunday. This guy knows what I'm talking about:
Napping and PlayStation forever.
